Tropical Shipping Announces Rate Reduction for all Shipments between the U.S. or Canada and the Turks and Caicos Islands
January 20, 2009 -- Beginning in January 2007 the world experienced an unprecedented increase in the price of crude oil. Oil prices rose from $64 in January 2008 to over $147 per barrel in August 2008. The continuous rise in oil costs impacted every segment of our economy, increasing the cost of transportation along with everything from automotive and marine parts to laundry detergent and breakfast cereals.
Tropical Shipping has continuously monitored these trends throughout the year and has responsibly adjusted the bunker surcharge to reflect both increases and decreases in the cost of fuel. The price per barrel of WTI crude oil has been declining throughout the 4th quarter of 2008. While the reduction in WTI reduces the cost of fuel it is not expected to provide any significant savings in the cost of materials and supplies whose prices remain extremely high.
Bunker Surcharge Reduction
Effective February 8, 2009, the bunker surcharge that is currently assessed on the bill of lading will be reduced to a $0 charge for shipments between the U.S. or Canada and the Turks and Caicos Islands.
Overall Reduction in Ocean Freight Charges
Please note that this change affects how these charges will appear on your bill of lading. The combined ocean freight and bunker surcharge will be reduced by $75.00 per TEU.
