March 23, 2011 -- Tropical Shipping is proud to be recognized by the Safety Council of Palm Beach County with three awards given at their 14th annual awards ceremony this month.

Hundreds of people throughout the county’s business, municipal and service communities were present when Tropical received the Award of Excellence for Worker Safety, Special Recognition for Safety Initiatives, and the Award of Merit for Vehicle Safety for our Trucking department.

From left: Ken Roundtree, Matthew King, Merrilee Gorman, and Rick Infante accepted awards for Tropical. Ken and Rick (who serve on the Safety Council of Palm Beach County, Inc. Board of Directors) presented the awards.

Awards are given in recognition for efforts taken to improve organizational safety statistics by industry.

The theme of this year’s ceremony was “Sail into Safety”.

Matthew King accepted the Award of Excellence for Worker Safety and Special Recognition for Safety Initiatives on behalf of Tropical Shipping. Merrilee Gorman accepted the Award of Merit for Vehicle Safety on behalf of Tropical Shipping’s Trucking Department.

“Tropical Shipping’s safety program, managers and employees on the safety committees, individual workers and drivers, have demonstrated their commitment to success when measured against others in our industry,” Matthew said.

The Safety Council also raffles and auctions off donated goods and services for fundraising for the 501(c)3 charity. For this event, Tropical Shipping helped raise $23,000 for programs such as Child Safety Seats, Children’s Bicycle Helmets, Mature Driver coaching and Behind the Wheel Driver Education.
