Tropical Shipping Announces Inland Fuel Surcharge Increase for the Bahamas, Eastern Caribbean, Western Caribbean, Dominican Republic, Guyana, and the Virgin Islands
March 25, 2011 -- Tropical Shipping has experienced significant increases in the cost of the inland transportation of cargo over the last several months. Since our last Inland Fuel Surcharge increase on August 8, 2010, the price of on-highway diesel fuel, as tracked by the U.S. Department of Energy, has increased more than 30%. Highway diesel fuel fluctuations are a function of shifting demand patterns, speculation, tight refining capacity and political uncertainty in the global crude oil markets. To recover these inland fuel expenses, Tropical Shipping will implement an increase to the inland fuel surcharge, for the following locations:
Bahamas, Eastern Caribbean, Western Caribbean, Dominican Republic, Guyana, and the Virgin Islands (USVI and BVI), effective April 24, 2011.
