Thompson Line Hurricane Paloma Update #3
November 11, 2008 -- Please be advised of the current operational status in our locations following the passing of Hurricane Paloma.
Grand Cayman: Back to Normal
The office is open, all facilities are intact, and vessels are back on schedule, sailing today and Thursday from Port Everglades. With today's sailing from Tampa cancelled, Tampa cargo was transported to Port Everglades for shipment.
Cayman Brac: Widespread Damage
Cayman Brac has sustained considerable damage from the storm. The Port Authority warehouse is damaged, and is actively being repaired. Thompson Shipping's Cayman Brac office is devastated, so operations are being handled from a temporary tent facility with paperwork ready and available. Vessels are on schedule, with the tug and barge having departed Grand Cayman yesterday with critical relief cargo expected in Cayman Brac tonight.
Little Cayman: Considerable Damage
Information received so far is that damages are not as extensive as Cayman Brac. Customer service is operational and running from Grand Cayman. The tug and barge service departed Grand Cayman yesterday with critical relief cargo expected in Little Cayman late tonight or early tomorrow.
Note that there are two tugs and barges assigned to the Cayman Brac and Little Cayman services during this critical period.
