Guide participants through the planning process with the assistance/consultation of national disaster management agencies
Develop a framework that allows public and private sector partners to more effectively develop plans to mitigate against the crippling economic effects of disasters
Establish a formal commitment and plan to address the needs of first responders and their families
"This series has grown in scope and popularity. It provides both the fundamental knowledge that stakeholders need when preparing for a disaster, as well as the means for ensuring that there are mechanisms in place to respond should one occur," commented CCAA Acting Executive Director, Sally Yearwood, "We are particularly excited about this first launch of the Florida Workshop Series as we expand on this Awareness campaign."
As in the past, the target audience in the host countries will include key businesses leaders and importers, Chambers of Commerce, public safety authorities, disaster preparedness managers, private industry security, contingency planners and operations personnel.
"We look forward to sharing our insight, experience and expertise to help each country with its disaster recovery planning process," said Tropical Shipping President Rick Murrell.
The Disaster Management Workshop series has been sponsored and conducted by Tropical Shipping as part of its community service activities since the mid-1990s. Past workshops have been held in destinations including Antigua, The Bahamas, Barbados, Cayman Islands, St. Lucia, St. Maarten, Trinidad & Tobago, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
